History

Amtrade has been supplying companies with their raw material requirements since 1883

Amtrade International is a long-established supplier of chemicals, plastics, raw materials and specialty products.

The origins of our business date back to 1883 with the founding of a partnership to import products into Victoria, Australia. This partnership evolved over time to become Brown & Dureau Ltd, which became a listed public company in 1946. The company was sold to Australian Paper Manufacturers Ltd (now called Amcor Ltd) in 1979 to facilitate imports of chemical raw materials, and the export of paper, pulp and packaging products. Brown & Dureau’s name was changed to Amcor Trading Pty Ltd, and then in 2000 to Amtrade International Pty Ltd.

In 2001, following the restructure of Amcor Ltd, Mr Ross Adler AC led a small group of shareholders to purchase Amtrade and became Chairman and CEO and the major shareholder. Ross Adler AC had been the Managing Director of Brown & Dureau Ltd from 1975 to 1984, and led the sale of the company to Amcor Ltd in 1979. He was subsequently appointed a Director and Deputy Managing Director of Amcor Ltd until 1984, when he left to become Managing Director of Santos Ltd until September 2000.

Today, Amtrade International is a leading supplier of chemicals, plastics, raw materials and specialty products to all major segments of Australian and New Zealand industry and continues to evolve and grow its business.
